What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a procedure where your dentist removes any decay, bacteria and nerves from the interior of a damaged tooth to save the tooth and prevent the need for an extraction.

The Root Canal Procedure
A root canal involves removing the diseased inner tooth root (blood vessels, nerves and other tissues) to halt the spread of infection and restore the healthy portion of the tooth.
First, your dentist will remove the diseased tissue from the tooth and then clean and disinfect the inner chamber. The chamber and canals are then filled with medication material to try and prevent infection. To finish the procedure, the tooth is generally capped with a dental crown.

The Benefits of Root Canals
There are many reasons for needing a root canal, including practical reasons. Saving the natural tooth is normally a wise choice.
Endodontic treatment can help you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for more extensive dental work in the future.
With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.
Patients who have root canals may experience little or no discomfort or pain, and enjoy a restored tooth.
